Trade mission from 3rd - 6th December

Take the opportunity to present your innovative broadband network products and services during the AHK trade mission "Electronic and ICT Equipment in ireland". Present your products and services to potential Irish business partners and expert representatives from business, government and industry from 3 to 6 December in Dublin.

Development of Broadband in Ireland

In recent years, Ireland has established itself as the "Internet capital" of Europe. However, Ireland has an outdated to non-existent IT infrastructure, especially in rural areas. The Irish government plans to invest 2.8 billioneuros for the expansion of the broadband network. This offers ideal market opportunities for German companies that are active in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics and information and technology.

Broadband internet connection in Ireland is significantly slower and also more expensive than in most other countries in the EU. Many residents still only have copper cabling which is less efficient than modern fibre optic cables. Nearly 22% of SMEs in Ireland do not have internet connection fast enough to maintain a website. As a result, the Irish government published a plan in 2012, the National Broadband Plan, which aims to provide 90% of Ireland's population with access to high-speed internet by 2020. As things stand today, only 69% of residents have access to high-speed internet. As a result, German SMEs not only have excellent export opportunities, but also multiple cooperation opportunities to support the expansion of broadband internet.

Business opportunities are available for the following areas, among others:

  • Interior Equipment
  • Preparation of Buildings
  • Broadband Communication Networks (including options of fibre optic cables or data transmission cables)
  • Internet Service Providers
  • Internet Infrastructure
  • Device Manufacturers
  • Telecommunication Equipment
