German Language Market Study: Biogas and Anaerobic Digestion in Ireland

The timely conference, at the Crowne Plaza in Blanchardstown on 24 October 2017, marked the
beginning of a week-long trade mission with eight innovative German companies covering different
aspects of the biogas sector. Close to 100 delegates attended the conference and a number of very
fruitful meetings had been organised for the German participants over the course of the week.

The conference featured expert talks, as well as informative presentations by the German participants. The conference was officially opened by Mr Ger Devlin, CEO of the Irish BioEnergy Association, followed by an introduction by Mr Sven Woller, Head of Marketing of the German-Irish Chamber. An overview over the German Energy Solutions Initiative was given by Mr Thorsten Gusek, Managing Partner of energiewaechter GmbH. Futhermore, an introduction was given into the biogas sector’s current developments in Germany by Mr David Wilken, Head of Waste, Fertilisation and Hygiene at the German Biogas Association, and Mr Michael Köttner, CEO of the International Biogas & Bioenergy Center of Competence (IBBK). The insights into the Irish biogas sector were given by Mr James Browne, Innovation Engineer at Gas Networks Ireland, Mr Garrett Monaghan, Partner at DWF, and Mr Percy Foster of Cre – Composting & Anaerobic Digestion Association of Ireland.

In addition to the conference, the German participants traveled all over Ireland for a number of fruitful meetings with different Irish businesses interested or already trading in the biogas sector.
