Microgrids Webinar: New opportunities in the Irish Greentech sector

30/06/2020

The German-Irish Chamber of Industry and Commerce successfully hosted a webinar on Microgrids and Self-Sufficiency in Communities on 30th June. Over 150 participants took part in the Webinar Conference and more than 50 digital meetings with potential Irish partners were organized for the 8 German delegates. Experts from Germany and Ireland gave an overview of the potential technologies and opportunities for the Irish market.

Ralf Lissek, CEO of the German-Irish Chamber announced, that “the first business deals were already initiated today and we see good opportunities in the green sector”. In addition, he gave four reasons why Greentech is successful in Ireland:

1.         Ireland has some catching up to do with the rest of the EU (share of energy from renewable sources in Ireland = 11.1%, Germany = 16.5%, EU average = 18.0%)

2.         Ireland has a strong commitment to Greentech, supported by the new government

3.         Ireland has the financial capability to invest in green technology, GDP in Ireland is higher than in Germany

4.         If there is any positive effect from Brexit, it might be a win-win situation for both countries, Germany and Ireland, to create additional trade. Because of substituting the UK as a partner for export and import. Go through the Sea Bridge and get export and import directly from Germany. It is in many cases cheaper. Already.
